Help 2 Speak - a multilingual phrasebok for Windows Mobile

help2speakHelp 2 Speak is a simple but well executed idea - a phrasebook for your mobile.

Using a simple menu system, the app will let you select one of 5 languages (English, German, French, Italian and Spanish) and then drill down through categories like ‘Transport’ ‘Restaurant’ and ‘Services’ to reach a list of phrases.

Scrolling down through the list brings up a translation in an easy-to-read caption at the top of the screen.

It’s  only a collection of phrases with menu front end, really, but it’s free,  looks nice and might help you out if you are struggling to make yourself understood on your holidays.

Until scientists get their fingers out and invent a Star Trek-style instant translator, this will have to do.

Available here for Windows Mobile, with iPhone, J2ME and Symbian versions to follow.

this will have to do. ….. Not necessarily.
The concept of a Phrasebook is completely wrong for this platform (mobile devices). Division into categories is nowadays unacceptable!
In order to get understood in various situations you must be able to build utterances, phrases and complete words out of the database of words and phrases available in your cell phone.
We have such database collected within 10 years. It contains 80.000 entries (some 70% are multiword).
It is also possible to build texts and send them as SMSes from your phone. You can enter any phone number or choose one from your address list.
You cannot compare it to any other existing software and it will be launched next week.
