Fresh from the Mobile World Congress floor is news that last week’s whispers about Sony Ericsson’s new touchscreen G series handsets were true. The devices are not full touchscreen only efforts and include a full keypad while still remaining relatively compact. In fact Sony Ericsson’s press release contained a thinly veiled stab at a certain handset stating that the G series is “not about technology for the sake of it”. Wonder what Sony Ericsson means by that?
At any rate the devices will each include a 2.4 inch display with a single-touch control menu as well as extensive organizer functions including a touchscreen note taking application. The main differences are that the G700 will have a 3.2 megapixel camera whereas the G900 will have a 5 megapixel snapper with touch auto focus and wifi connectivity.
Essentially this puts the phones in the mid-spec range for 2008 which bodes well for the standard inclusion of touchscreen interfaces in other handsets throughout the year. This is just the start of a very busy week in handset news so stay tuned for plenty more.
