Ever heard of the handset manufacturer Velocity Mobile? Neither have we but that’s probably something to do with its current new kid on the block status, having formed as a joint venture with laptop manufacturer Inventec. Based in the UK, the company has been moonlighting at the Las Vegas CITA Wireless show for the past couple of days, showing off the first of its wares.
Claiming to raise the bar for smartphones in their class, Velocity Mobile’s initial offerings, the Velocity 103 and Velocity 111, are 3.5G Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 based devices featuring high-resolution touch screens, HSDPA connectivity, WiFi, GPS, 2.0 megapixel camera, 0.3 megapixel video conferencing camera, TV/VGA out, Bluetooth 2.0 and a MicroSD expansion slot.
The chief differentiator between the two seems to be that the 111 has a QWERTY keyboard and the 103 has an in-built Qualcomm Mobile Station Modem. Either way, both phones are positively armed to the teeth with features, though if they are to be thought of as introducing new standards, then that price tag is going to have to be pretty darn reasonable. Considering their slightly austere business like casings, we reckon both the 103 and 111 will be aimed squarely at office dwellers. Hit the jump for more pictures.
