If you are planning a family visit to Alton Towers any time soon, then don’t assume it will be an opportunity for you to sit happily on a bench pretending to take pictures of your family with your phone as they scream their way round the various rollercoasters while you are actually pandering to your hopeless email addiction.
Not that any of you would do that (winks at Blackberry owners) but it seems that Alton Towers is taking the situation into its own hands by piloting a “PDA Free Zone” during the May school holiday so reports Cellular News. the idea is to encourage parents to completely remove themselves from the office by separating them from their beloved handsets. There will be PDA police patrolling the areas who will banish any PDAs found to a drop off/collection point where they can be left safely for the day.
If the pilot goes well, the theme park is proposing to employ the measure full time. Divisional Director for the Alton Towers Resort Russell Barnes explains
What we have here is the ultimate short break location where every member of the family can unwind and have fun. We feel it’s so important for parents and kids to focus on nothing more than having the best possible time, we are prepared to take drastic action to ensure that parents really leave their work behind!
But what about all the kids that want to check their Bebo/facebook accounts? Will their PDAs/smartphones be confiscated too?
