Would you watch a full-length film on your mobile phone? It’s been a subject of intense discussion (for geeks admittedly) for years now, but we’re finally getting the chance to get proof. Motorola has announced a deal with Paramount Pictures to make a stack of movies available for download to its handsets in the UK, with Germany, Italy, Spain and France due to follow soon. You’ll actually browse and buy the films on Motorola’s UK website, before downloading them to your PC and sideloading them onto your phone. They’ll be priced between £5.99 and £8.99, which is about the same as those sold through Apple’s iTunes Store, which launched its movie offering here in the UK last week. Motorola is making 40 films available initially, including the likes of Mission Impossible 3, Jackass, School of Rock and a bunch of Star Trek flicks. It’s not made clear what file format the movies are in, and what (if any) DRM is attached. Can I buy a film from Motorola and then transfer it to my Nokia or Sony Ericsson phone instead? It’ll cost at least £5.99 to put that to the test. You can browse the available films here, anyway.
