iPhone gets web based Blog It blogging app

The forthcoming iPhone 2.0 software update may come with some pretty robust blogging options built in, but that doesn’t mean that some other companies aren’t looking to lend a helping hand.

And who better to offer that helping hand than Six Apart, the company responsible for helping to pioneer blogging with creations such as Moveable Type among others. The company has now launched a free web application called Blog It which is essentially a TypePad powered blogging application tailored to the iPhone’s Safari browser. Basically the tool opens up more than a dozen different popular online blogging services to iPhone users in one fell swoop (Blogger, Facebook, FriendFeed, Jaiku, LiveJournal, Movable Type, Pownce, Tumblr, Twitter, TypePad Vox, WordPress.com, and any WordPress.org site.)

Based closely on the original version of Blog It which was released specifically for people to update their facebook accounts, the iPhone version works via the same interface. Though you can use the web based app to do some reasonably involved blogging, Six Apart is also promising a full on native application to be released via the App Store for free as soon as the App Store launches including various more advanced blogging features.

Talk about adding a middle man to cut out the middle man. Still, this is very welcome if pretty unsurprising news.
