Welsh NHS Trust lifts mobile phone ban

nhslogo.jpegThe North East Wales NHS Trust has decided to allow the use of mobile phones on its premises.

Most NHS hospitals ban mobile phones out of fears that they could interfere with medical equipment.  The NEW Trust has relaxed the ban after tests showed that equipment is unlikely to be affected unless the mobile phone is very close to key components.

NEW Trust spokesman Andy Scotson said,”For many people mobile phones are an essential way to keep in contact with family and friends, and we want to help our patients keep in touch with loved ones while they are in hospital.”

Nevertheless, there are still etiquette issues to take into consideration.  Someone yelling “I’M IN THE HOSPITAL!”  or blaring an annoying (i.e. any) ringtone could upset patients and the Trust is to insist on phones being on silent mode, with some restricted ‘quiet’ area.

There is also to be a complete ban on video of still photography unless authorised by staff.
