Nokia pushes free push email

nokemail.jpgPush email is the Blackberry’s ‘killer app’.  Soon, it will be (one of) the iPhone 3G’s killer app(s) with the launch of Mobile Me.

While there are several push services around that will work with Symbian phones (e.g. OneBridge) they all cost money and tend to require Exchange, Lotus Notes, etc. as a back end.

Nokia has launched a free push email service called simply ‘Nokia Email’ that promises to bring push email to the (Nokia using) masses.

Just sign up over at the Nokia Email site and you will be sent a download link to the S60 3rd Edition app.  The app runs on the  E51, E61, E61i, E65, E66, E71, E90, N73, N80, N81 8GB and N95 handsets and can work with any POP3 or IMAP-capable email account.

The client integrates with your contacts list and can be scheduled to only poll your mail server during specific times - useful if you like to keep work to certain hours of the day.

wrong link, you probably want to refer to: https://email.nokia.com/account/home.action.

    Did you say “poll” ?
Is that how it works? I (perhaps wrongly?) thought ‘push’ technology was different to polling?

I downloaded this application and started using it. I am very pleasantly surprised. It pushes all my emails to my phone and I can reply, forward etc them very easily. It uses my contacts and scans them for email addresses. And best of all it’s free. I used to pay £10 a month to have this service with T-Mobile and Blackberry so I am very happy.
