Finally! You can relax now, Apple iPhone owners. Your long nightmare of not having Copy ‘n’ Paste is over!
Just kidding, of course. There is no way Apple would let such a major user interface change out of the door without much handwringing and second guessing. They certainly wouldn’t let some fly-by-night third party outfit like Proximi go and do the job for them.
Which is a bit of a shame. MagicPad is a new rich text editor app from the aforementioned Proximi that seems to have made a usable attempt at the supposedly inscrutable Copy ‘n Paste UI problem that has Apple so stumped.
Using a tweaked version of the Magnifying Glass, you can use your finger to select some text - just like dragging a mouse over it in a desktop app. A set of buttons about the softkeyboardwill performvarious lactions on your selection - changing fonts, text colours/size and, yes, copy and paste.
Sadly, the clipboard only works within the MagicPad app. Once again, Apple’s insistence of locking down the iPhone under a digital chastity belt means that potentially great software just isn’t as useful as it could be. Bah.
