With the iPhone 3G dominating a frankly unfair amount of space in the blogosphere right now, it’s good to remember that Nokia is about to ride in on dashing black stallion horse to bring about some much needed balance.
That horse is of course the N96 and according to Electricpig, the date we are all waiting for is Wednesday, October 1st. For those of you that haven’t been following Nokia’s hotly anticipated successor to the N95 8GB, the N96 is not leaving anything to chance in the specs department.
Sporting 16GB of onboard storage (expandable to 32GB via an additional microSDHC), familiar dual-slide form factor, 5 megapixel Zeiss camera with dual LED flash, 3G, WiFi, GPS and HSDPA the N96 is a grunting, snorting beast of a handset.
All those features won’t come cheap however so those of you that haven’t jumped on the iPhone 3G bandwagon (and who are not holding out for more details about Samsung’s forthcoming INOV8 handset) should probably get saving those pennies now. So far there has been no official word from Nokia about a specific date so we are going to have to treat this as rumour for now. Even so, Electricpig’s claim does fall neatly in line with Nokia’s projected release window so fingers crossed.
