Money:Sense ratio tested to limit by new iPhone app

iamrich.jpgWow.  There is a word for this, and that word is chutzpah.

iPhone developer  Armin Heinrich is aiming to tap a rich seam of stupid with his latest - some would say greatest - app “I Am Rich”.

Retailing on the App Store  for a whopping $999.99 the app will display a smart looking red crystal icon on the screen of your iPhone or iPod Touch and then.. well, there is no ‘and then’ - that’s all it does.

The ‘point’ according to the author is “to remind others that you were able to afford it”. Yup, this is pure conspicuous consumption in iPhone app form.

Says Armin, “it’s a work of art with no hidden function at all.”  Actually, that’s not strictly true - it does have a dual use as a sort of idiot detector.  If we could just persuade people to wear it on their foreheads then society at large would have a handy indicator of its least useful members, should climate change necessitate some kind of breeding restriction program.

You have to admire Armin, really.  If just one hipster doofus buys a copy - even ironically - then that is still a great score for very little effort, although part of me does hope that someone clones the app and sells it for a mere $500.  Bargain!
