Forget downloading expensive iPhone ringtones from big-name artists. What you want to do is get creative and make your own. A new application from Sonic Boom promises to let you do just that. It’s called ToneMaker with Voice, and it’s a port of an app already available for regular handsets on US operator Verizon Wireless (pictured).
It works by you choosing different part of a song - drums, bass, rhythm and lead - while tweaking the tempos, and then overlaying your own voice on top if you want to. Genres covered include hip-hop, pop, country, electronic and reggaeton, and Sonic Boom will be offering celebrity samples to download too. That country-reggaeton Britney Spears and Russell Brand mash-up is yours for the making! Possibly.
The announcement doesn’t make it clear whether ToneMaker with Voice is actually available on the App Store in the US - it certainly isn’t in the UK yet - or whether it’s something that only works on jailbroken iPhones. Apple has reportedly been fairly protective of its ability to sell iPhone ringtones, so it’ll be interesting to see if it allows ToneMaker onto the App Store.
