iPhone 2.1 firmware available NOW on iTunes

Apple has just released the iPhone 2.1 firmware that was announced earlier this week. It’s available through iTunes now by pressing the ‘Check for Updates’ button on the iPhone summary page, and is a whopping 237.8MB download.

Here’s the full list of bug fixes and improvements:

  • decrease in call set-up failures and call drops
  • significantly improved battery life for most users
  • dramatically reduced time to backup to iTunes
  • improved email reliability, notably fetching email from POP and Exchange accounts
  • faster installation of 3rd party applications
  • fixed bugs causing hangs and crashes if you have lots of 3rd party applications
  • improved performance in text messaging
  • faster loading and searching of contacts
  • improved accuracy of the 3G signal strength display
  • repeat alert up to two additional times for incoming text messages
  • option to wipe data after ten failed passcode atttempts
  • Genius playlist creation
Steve Jobs touted this as a hugely important update for iPhone users, correcting many of the faults that we’ve been complaining about. If you’re a UK reader, I’d grab it now, before the West Coast of the US wakes up and breaks Apple’s servers…
