We haven’t had a good prod around with a patent for a bit, so here goes. Nokia has filed one for a new system for adding notes to photos using a built-in keypad or touchscreen. It seems that the emphasis will be on building a nice visual interface on top of one of those blindingly obvious ‘how come nobody has done this before’ kind of ideas.
The system would mean that once you take a photo, you’d be able to flip it over and use a stylus (or a qwerty) to scribble some details on the back, just like a real photograph. Sounds pretty cool, especially if geotagging is factored into the equation. It could also encourage people to store and share libraries of photos on their handset, rather than just the odd few snaps.
If you want to talk smartphone features that Nokia is streets ahead of the iPhone with, then the Nseries line of Carl Zeiss lenses is a pretty good place to start. Naturally, boosting those features with some flashy looking, easy to use software is a good way to underline that, though like with every patent, there’s no guarantee that this will ever come to market so don’t go getting your hopes up quite yet.
