Sony Ericsson and Windows Mobile dalliance apparently just a casual thing…

Rest easy people, the soon to be released Xperia X1 certainly will make use of Windows Mobile, but for future handsets in the Xperia line, maybe not. At the launch of the X1’s digital marketing campaign in Sweden yesterday, the X1’s product manager, Magnus Andersson, commented:

“The brand is not tied into any specific technical platform,”

Well, well, well. Seeing as the X1 will be the first Sony Ericsson handset house Windows Mobile, it looks like Sony Ericsson’s little sojourn with Microsoft might be short lived. Which is great because it allows us to speculate wildly about what future Xperia handsets will run on.
The X1 is a pretty powerful little beast, apparently able to run up to nine applications such as email, video or Internet browsing simultaneously, so there’s no reason that a successor to the device couldn’t handle a feature rich configuration of Google’s Android OS.

Indeed, the X1 already has a near identical form factor to the HTC Dream so if that set-up proves to be popular, there’s nothing to stop Sony Ericsson getting its Xperia brand on-board with the wave of second generation Android phones that will probably start to arrive late next year.

Is that a guess too far?
