Truphone now on Blackberrys too

Got a Blackberry? Fancy saving some cash on your bill? Heard of Truphone? If your answers to those questions were yes, yes, no, then listen up. In fact, even if you answered yes, yes, yes, you should probably still pay attention.

One of mobile VoIP’s biggest names, Truphone, has just made its client available to Blackberry users. But what is Truphone? Well its a clever little application that when prompted to do so, re routes your calls via Truphone’s own servers to make calls over the internet for a fraction of the usual price.

That means none of your data allowance is used up as the call is essentially being made for you by a third party. That means you don’t really need to worry about having an unlimited data agreement with your carrier like you do with other mobile VoIP applications, though it’s probably worthwhile checking to make sure your carrier doesn’t mind you sidestepping around its bothersome call fees too.

The app is still in Beta mode, but it’s free to download and try out now.
