The days of phone chargers may be soon over. Moxia Energy, the outfit behind the rechargeable batteries that plug into USB slots, is bringing the same technology to mobile phone batteries. The batteries have a USB plug hidden away inside their body ready to be plugged into any available power source including your PC, Xbox 360 or PS3. Anything, in fact, with a USB port.
The plug is positioned at the bottom, so that you don’t have to take the battery out. It isn’t clear yet which handsets will support the new charger, but from the press release imagery, Sony Ericsson and Motorola RAZR handsets look a given. We hope to have a little more information about supported handsets soon.

As Jonti pointed out, tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, and with bedroom antics probably at the top of every couple’s To Do list, you can be sure that plenty of people will be turning to music to set the mood. But if you were planning on using your ringtone to seduce your girlfriend/ fiancée/ wife then think again (seriously), because research out today shows that ringtones – or should we say ‘certain’ ringtones – are ‘unappealing’. Unsurprisingly, the research isn’t worried about those who have Barry White as their ringtone, but rather blokes with mobile chimes based around “arrogant songs referring to sexual prowess or good looks, closely followed by songs associated with football.”

The lack of a simple-to-set-up push email service has long let the side down for Windows Mobile devices. Unless you have a degree in computer science or a friend who specialises in Windows Exchange Server, then quite often you’re stuck with retrieving email the (new) old fashioned way, over the Internet. Until now, that is.
Thanks to Emoze you’ll might soon be able to try something new, since the service promises to give your Windows Mobile device push email without giving you a ton of grey hairs. It is available for both professional and personal use. You can download the program via Emoze’s official site.

Microsoft has finally released the drivers for Vista to connect and sync your Windows Mobile device. This is something we missed the other week, but we thought we’d bring it to you anyway since it’s sort of critical for those who install content and applications to their Windows Mobile phones via their Windows PC. You can get the drivers from Microsoft’s official site by clicking here.

Not content with announcing a new and very swish Z8 today, Motorola has also announced at 3GSM that it is to team up with Sky to deliver a whole raft of services and entertainment. Not only are Sky and Motorola offering TV content alongside the usual news, entertainment and sport, but they are also offering built-in free access to Sky’s ‘Anytime’ service. Ok, so it’s not something cable users are likely to get excited about, but for those with Sky, the ability to record a program while you’re out and about could be a life saver, especially when you only remember five minutes before it starts.

Trade exhibitions are like a tube of Pringles. Once they pop, they just can’t stop, and boy has 3GSM popped open. First up, is that despite the rumour that the big mobile carriers are teaming up to launch a combined assault against the likes of Google and Yahoo, the mobile manufacturers seem to have a different idea altogether.
LG has been making big noises in Barcelona today about its partnership with Yahoo. The deal which will see Yahoo’s mobile applications such as Go for Mobile 2.0, Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! Messenger and the recently launched Yahoo! oneSearch, pre-loaded onto tens of millions of LG handsets in over 70 countries. We doubt the operators are too happy.

Being greedy, All You Can Eat offers get our mouths’ watering. And Omnifone claims that its new MusicStation service will beat iTunes hands down, thanks to just such an approach to mobile music. Rather than paying per track, subscribers pay £1.99 per month for as many music tracks as they want.
The best part of it is that MusicStation doesn’t even require a music phone, since it apparently runs on a Java platform that all but the most ancient of phones can handle. Memory isn’t a problem either, since the program automatically stores your favourite tunes on your mobile at the expense of less played ones – and it costs nothing to download those tracks again. MusicStation is due to launch later this year.

All in all it should be a hugely exciting week for you, and a tiring one for us. Our friends over at Mobile Entertainment have a list what to expect come next week so head over there to see what kind of things you can expect to see hit our pages over the next week.

Boring to look at, merely functional and quite often disorientating, mobile phone menus are the bane of many phone users experience. Thank goodness you can change them though, but quite often the changes are just superficial. Many of the problems that cause irritation remain, but thanks to the increasing use of Flash Lite in modern mobile phones things are about to change.
At 3GSM next week, German developer Mobile Entertainment Factory (MEF) is to show off several Flash Lite based backgrounds including the swish mobile clocks you can see to the right. We’ll have more about different products from MEF over the next week through individual posts so keep your eyes peeled.

How many times have you found yourself wishing you didn’t have to wait till you got home before you could post that picture of you and your mates down the pub, up on your Myspace profile? Well Vodafone Live users can fret no more because from today, they can download Myspace Mobile to their, er, well, mobiles obviously.
The best thing about the application is that it allows you to send those pictures, and post comments and blogs without incurring huge data bills. Instead it costs no more than a standard picture message or SMS text message. The program, which launches in the UK first, can be downloaded by Vodafone Live users via Vodafone’s operator portal, or alternatively, you can buy a new phone with the software already pre-installed.
