Last year, 3 UK launches its mobile broadband dongle - a USB modem that you connect to your laptop for broadband on the go. Charging a tenner a month for 1GB of data undercut all 3’s rivals, and it seems the service has been a success: 3 has seen data traffic increase by 700% since it was introduced in October.
It’s also helped 3 sign up half a million new customers, which is pretty impressive. CEO Kevin Russell tells The Register that the operator is increasing the speeds available through the modems to 7.2Mbps later this year, double the current speed.
Is 3 making much money from all this data traffic? That seems more up in the air. But hey, new customers are new customers, right?
