We’re guessing Apple’s gurus are working overtime to undo the good work of the iPhone Dev Team. The former seemingly has iPhone firmware update 1.1.1 on the way (above right; not much detail to talk about, other than a new ‘Home Button’ option), while the latter has just released the user-friendly version of its iUnlock network unlocking software, anySIM. We can see this battle running for quite some time…

Boom, baby! At last, the hack that everyone’s been waiting for has arrived: full, free, software-only network unlocking of the Apple iPhone, courtesy of the team at iPhone Dev Wiki.
Gizmodo bust the scoop on this one, and is hosting the files for download over on this page. Engadget confirms that iUnlock works, but also notes that a more user-friendly version has been promised to arrive very shortly. For the less technically confident it may well be worth hanging on for that to turn up.
Meanwhile, MacRumors links to this instruction page that gives a fairly detailed breakdown of the procedure, and some common issues that may occur. As with all hacks ‘n’ cracks, we’d advise that you proceed with caution — but it seems that the lid is finally off Apple’s box.
Update, 13th Sept: 9to5mac is reporting that a GUI-based version of the unlock software has just been released as a beta over at http://www.freeiphoneunlock.com/unlock/
