Vertu has gone relatively unchallenged in the ‘Rolls Royce of mobile phones’ category, but it seems that Tag Heuer has designs on suplanting its position with a bank balance breaking handset of its own.
For those of you who don’t care for expensive time pieces, Tag Heuer is a prestigious Swiss watchmaker with a background in Formula 1 car parts manufacture, so a venture into mobile phones was only a matter of time really. The handset, dubbed the Meridiist, is a candybar sporting a 2 megapixel camera, 1.9 inch QVGA display, Bluetooth, media player and is hewn out of a long list of luxury materials such as steel and leather.
How much for this you ask? A mere €3,400 to €3,900 (between about £4300 and £5000) *splutter* depending on the material configuration you choose - ouch! Yep, that is a lot of money to ask for a device with such an underwhelming spec sheet but remember, you are paying for the design (and the name). Oh, and fittingly, it has a nice little clock slotted on it’s top side (worth every penny then).
We are guessing that most of our readers won’t be buying this so to see what you are missing out on, hit the jump for a full pictorial breakdown of the device.
