Nokia N82 gets exclusive ‘adventure pack’ from its online store

n82-shop-copy.jpgNokia’s released an exclusive ‘adventure pack’ for its brand spanking new N82, just in time for Christmas.

Available only from Nokia’s online store, the ‘adventure pack’ includes a Sim-free N82 (naturally), but also a pre-installed copy of Nokia’s Sports Tracker app and a Salomon backpack, as well as the 2GB microSD card and music headset which come as standard. And all this for only £399.

The phone itself is quite a nifty piece of kit with a five-megapixel camera, built-in GPS and Nokia Maps (in case you get lost while jogging), mobile internet (on 3G and Wi-Fi), plus a music player and FM radio.

The handset, currently available on O2 with a range of mobile retailers is already a pretty hot device, and presumably the ‘adventure pack’ is going to prove pretty attractive for sports enthusiasts.

Pic leaked of first Sony Ericsson P5i in someone’s hand

p5i.jpgOne of Sony Ericsson’s beta testers has leaked a picture of the delayed Sony Ericsson P5i smartphone. Admittedly it’s not a great shot but these days we have to take what we can get until Sony Ericsson officially unveils it.

The picture was leaked onto an Esato forum and shows a phone looking very heavily influenced by Apple’s iPhone.

According to the posting, the P5i is a slider handset running Symbian 9.1 on a UIQ 3.2 or UIQ 4 platform. The hi-res screen’s 2.8-inches, there’s GPS and of course, Wi-Fi built-in.

The phone also has a quite powerful 360Mhz processor and 160MB of internal memory, which can be expanded with both Memory Stick Micro (M2) and MicroSD cards.

It sounds and (we think) looks better and better every time details are leaked about this device, but we’ll have to wait until mid-2008 to see it.

A phone with built-in Bluetooth headset storage - will it catch on?

bt1.jpgn1.jpgNow what a great idea this is - no more frantic scrabbling around for your Bluetooth headset when your phone rings.

The Star NX788 is a Chinese-made device but it has a feature that might just catch on - a small compartment on the back that stores your Bluetooth headset.

The Star NX788 itself has is pretty basic with dual-band GSM, stereo Bluetooth (A2DP), a 2.6-inch touch screen, 1.3-megapixel camera and microSD card slot. But then you wouldn’t buy this phone for the latest mobile technology - you’d buy it so you’d always have your Bluetooth headset to hand.

There is one problem with this though. As anyone using a stylus-based handset will know, you’re bound to lose it at some point. A replacement stylus costs nothing, but a Bluetooth headset? It could get expensive if you’re a forgetful person.

i-Play mobile content sold on cards in the US

mportico logo.gifi-Play, the British mobile entertainment company, will see its mobile content sold through retailers on miniSD and microSD memory cards, after a deal with mPortico.

mPortico said the deal will circumvent problems accessing mobile content like network limitations, download costs and the need to click through loads of menus to get to content.

At first this is a US distribution agreement as the above are apparently still issues there. Here in the UK, accessing and downloading mobile content from handsets is becoming increasingly more widespread.

That said, this wouldn’t even be the first British example of selling content on memory cards - Rok is already a major player in this space.

With mPortico’s cards, anyone with a phone with a compatible memory card slot can simply insert the card to access the content.

What makes it a little different is that the cards use mPortico’s own EZ-XS platform and if users sign up to mPortico’s Mobile Media Network, they’l be able to buy new content over the mobile internet from its mobile content store.

The cards will be sold in retailers across the US from early next year, with other countries following suit soon after.

Latest HTC Touch - the Cruise - goes on sale this month

HTCTouchCRUISE_frontR.jpgHTC has officially announced the third device in its Touch range - the HTC Touch Cruise - which goes on sale this month.

The previous two - the HTC Touch and HTC Touch Dual - have been big hits for HTC. They were aimed at specific consumer segments, and now the HTC Touch Cruise is aimed at a different group again.

The Cruise is the first Touch device to include built-in GPS, as well as 3G/HSDPA, wif-fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

Other new features include the new HTC Home Screen providing one-touch access to messages, calendar and contacts as well as, for some reason, global weather reports. It also features Windows Mobile 6, TouchFLO controls, media player, three-megapixel camera, 128MB memory (plus microSD card slot) and FM radio.

The HTC Touch Cruise’s GPS software comes from TomTom offering either a taster city map, or the option to buy full maps covering all of Western Europe.

It seems HTC’s aim of releasing different Touch devices that will find an audience among all consumers is slowly becoming a reality.

Rumoured Sony Ericsson P5i specs surface

5wmVoRZgMoyTkm4cqvT5.jpgAlthough Sony Ericsson has always been vanguards of touchscreens in mobile phones, the release of the iPhone has put them in the unique position of playing catch up. The long rumoured P5i touchscreen wunderkind is looking ever more tangible and many are expecting an official announcement for the handset as soon as next week.

No actual spy shots of the device have emerged yet but the ever dependable Esato forums has a very nice looking render of the device as well as a run down of what are rumoured to be the finished specs.

Besides the 2.5 inch VGA touchscreen, the P5i is also said to sport a 5 MP camera with auto focus and flash, built-in GPS, Wi-Fi, 160 MB ROM, 128 MB SDRAM, a 360 MHz CPU, HSDPA/HSUPA connectivity and a MicroSD/Memory Stick M2 card slot. Most interesting of all however is the Symbian 9.3 OS, UIQ 3.2 touchscreen UI that runs on the device, something we have already been hearing murmurs about.

If these specs turn out to be accurate, this could be one serious touchscreen contender. As soon as we get the concrete details we’ll print them here.

LG’s supersexy smartphone the KS20 gets released… but not in UK

LG_KS20_1.jpgWe want one. One of the new LG’s that is - not the models.

LG’s already won plaudits for its stylish, sexy handsets like the LG Prada and LG Chocolate phones, and now it’s turned its hand to smartphones with the LG KS20.

It looks similar to the Prada handset but the KS20 is more like a iPhone (surprise, surprise). It boasts a 2.8-inch touchscreen and runs on Windows Mobile 6 Professional, and to ensure connectivity has HSDPA as well.

As you would expect from all this, the LG KS20 is designed to be the ultimate mobile internet smartphone. It will play music and video content and has a two-megapixel camera, plus another for video calling. Further content can be stored on the microSD card slot.

It looks superb and from the sounds of the specs, will work like a dream as well. It could have the looks and the capabilities to make it the ultimate smartphone.

The catch? It’s not available in the UK. Yet. If you want one, you’ll have to get it in France, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands and Italy, or wait until it’s undoubtedly released over here sometime soon.
