There’s been a lot of talk about this year’s US presidential election being the first one where Web 2.0 will have a real impact on how candidates drum up support. But it seems mobile will also have a part to play, judging by Barack Obama’s launch of a dedicated mobile internet site. Called, naturally, Obama Mobile, it’s pretty impressive too, packing in SMS alerts, videos, ringtones, wallpapers, SMS alerts and other content. It seems Obama’s stolen a march on his rival John McCain too, since the latter doesn’t have a dedicated mobile site. Well, you know how these aged chaps struggle with mobile technology… Anyway, the site can be found at obamamobile.mobi, although I’m wondering why they didn’t go for the simpler obama.mobi instead. It’s being enthusiastically plugged by dotMobi, the company responsible for .mobi domains. What’s more, it says there’s now more than 178,000 ‘made for mobile’ sites out there. Expect David Cameron to have one within weeks.
