Qik brings live videocasting to BlackBerry

Mobile lifecasting is the future. Possibly. Y’know, when you use your mobile phone to stream live video footage to potentially* millions of viewers.

Qik is one of the companies making it happen, and it’s just announced the launch of its application for BlackBerry handsets, albeit in alpha status only. It works with the BlackBerry Bold and Curve already, with plans to support other handsets in future updates.

The app is already available for a wide range of smartphone and Java handsets, so adding BlackBerry support is a logical move. The big question, however, is whether Qik will be available for the iPhone. There’s already a version running on hacked iPhones, but as yet there’s no news on whether it’ll be sold officially through the App Store.

Qik shows demo of streaming video iPhone application

qik-iphone.jpgQik has announced that it’s bringing its live video streaming app to the iPhone, allowing people to broadcast live video from their handset to billions of potential viewers (oh, alright, their wife or husband, and their dog). What’s that? The iPhone doesn’t DO video? Well, it does now. Qik isn’t the only company figuring out how to get video out of the iPhone’s camera, either.

Anyway, Qik is one of those up-and-coming Mobile 2.0 services, so it’s good to see it getting ported to the iPhone too. Whether it’ll catch on is something we’ll see in the coming months. Click here to watch a video demo of the service in action.
