Vodafone’s certainly been stirring controversy, speculation and rumour about 3G iPhones this week.
First, on Monday, Vodafone got an injunction against T-Mobile in Germany, demanding that German iPhones be sold unlocked without two-year contracts. This is going to be reviewed in two weeks.
The German court decision came after Vodafone Germany filed a motion for the courts to review T-Mobile’s exclusive rights to sell the iPhone, which are apparently in breach of German commercial laws.
This was the same argument that saw Bouygues Telecom and Virgin Mobile sell iPhones in France, alongside Orange, which was stopped from selling it exclusively.
Now, Vodafone is playing down rumours it’s going to sell 3G iPhones next year.
A spokesman has told Tech.co.uk that although Vodafone has said before it was interested in selling 3G iPhones, this is ‘rubbish’.
However, he did say: “We have said in the past we’re interested in selling a 3G iPhone and that may have been misinterpreted.”
Hmm. Telefonica’s already been linked with 3G iPhones as early as May next year. Having seen O2 sell thousands of iPhones already, what’s the betting Vodafone’s lining itself up to get at the forefront of negotiations for the 3G iPhone contract from Apple?
Budget phone maker Fly Mobile has released its second cheap prepay handset in as many weeks, this time in Argos on Virgin Mobile.
A couple of weeks ago, Fly Mobile announced the £100 touchscreen SLT 100. The new one is called the SL399e and is a pink clamshell, so presumably it’s aimed at women.
It has a 1.3-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, a MP3 player, memory card support and a colour screen inside.
It doesn’t sound particularly exciting, but that’s because you haven’t heard the price yet- £39.99. Yes, that’s right, a sub-£40 prepay handset just in time for Christmas.
Emerging manufacturer Fly Mobile has announced its latest handset, a low-end prepay handset that’s probably one of the cheapest touchscreen handsets around.
The SLT 100 comes in pink (for the ladies) and black (for men), and is the third handset from Fly Mobile. The SLT 100 does also feature a traditional keyboard and has a two-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, FM radio (And the exclusive FM record function for saving radio programmes), MP3 player and memory card support.
The SLT 100 is available as a pre-pay handset with Virgin Mobile and you’ll be able to get it, if you wish, from Currys, The Link Online and Argos. Pricing hasn’t yet been confirmed, but it will almost certainly be very reasonably priced.
